So, you plan on buying a fermentation equipment? But looking for some extra tips and advice before taking the plunge. Kudos, it’s always better to go in prepared, before making an investment in brewery equipment.

What are the main factors when you purchase fermentation vessel?

Taking the purchase of a 2000 liter beer fermentation tank from a Mexican customer as an example, we list several main factors as follows:

Q. Are there two separate glycol jackets in the cone and body, or one single glycol jacket?

A. Two separate honeycomb glycol jackets in the cone and body, jacket made of stainless steel 304, raw material thickness 2mm. Cone bottom 60 degrees.

Q. The manway appears to be shadowless, is this the case?

A. The pressure manway door is shadowless type.

Q. Other than the drop hop port, which is listed at a 4” TC port, are the rest of the ports 1.5” TC (other than glycol in/outs)?

A. Except for the four-inch dry hop port, the rest are 1.5-inch clamp connections.

Q. Are the glycol ports NPT? What is their size?

A. Glycol in/outs have NPT US standard screw, most of US customer use NPT type, and Stout/SSbrewtech also use NPT. NPT standard 1/4 , biggest diameter:0.536 inch, middle diameter: 0.5 inch, smallest diameter: 0.447 inch.

More Advantages To Using Cylindroconical Fermentation Equipment

The design of the cylindroconical tanks has many other advantages, which we’ve discovered in the intervening years. These include:

  1. Better mixing because of convection currents set up by rising gas bubbles
  2. Easier to control temperature of the fermentation
  3. Cleaning, sanitization and microbiological control is much easier in cylindroconical vessels compared to previous tank designs.
  4. These tanks can be individually insulated.
  5. Automation of fermentation processes is much easier
  6. Collection of CO2 in primary fermentation and reuse is possible. As is spunding for better carbonation.
  7. Better yeast handling and recovery with collection from the bottom of the tank (cone). Cylindroconical vessels make yeast handling more sanitary.
